Public Library of Catasauqua: Friends are important, especially for the library

I’ve been thinking a lot about friends lately. If you have moved to a completely different area, or even a completely different country, you’ll know how much you miss good friends.

The library in Catasauqua is looking for friends. You might wonder why a library needs friends.

Friends of the Library is an essential group. Friends members help the librarians and the trustees to think of great ideas to help the library in many ways. It doesn’t matter how little time you may have, every minute spent helping is valuable and valued.

Whether it’s raising money, decorating, being the bingo caller, serving refreshments or finding new ways to help the library, we need you!

I am holding up the teenagers as a wonderful example of helping the library. They painted the stairwell in our building, and now they are renovating the old card catalogs to sell them to raise much-needed funds.

They come in once a month on Saturdays to show movies and make popcorn for the younger children. There is often a task to be done that is just for you.

The Friends of the Library group next meets 2 p.m. Nov. 30 in the downstairs area of the library, 302 Bridge St.
