Firefighters used a steel training door apparatus to simulate forced entry, then firefighters in full protective gear, with air packs, crawled through the darkened structure to locate and simulate distinguishing a kitchen fire. Other firefighters used the department's aerial ladder truck to scale the structure's roof and simulated venting procedures to lower the high interior temperatures they would encounter in a real fire situation.
