Northampton: Food bank announces distribution dates

Northampton Area Food Bank’s upcoming distribution dates are set for 5-7 p.m. Sept. 15 and 9-11:30 a.m. Sept. 17.

The food bank, located at 1601 Canal St., is also open 9:30-11:30 a.m. every Wednesday for registration, inquiries, donation drop-offs and produce pickup.

Bring a picture ID with a current address or ID and a bill with the correct address. You should reside in Northampton Area School District. You will need names and birth dates of everyone living with you full time.

Siegfried Railroad Station, West 21st Street, will be open to visitors 1-4 p.m. Sept. 18. This year’s special display is on World War II. Visitors can view four scrapbooks containing newspaper photographs of men and women who served in the war. The books are indexed to make it easier to find photos of loved ones.

Alliance Fire Company will hold its second annual Oktoberfest event Sept. 24 in the social hall, 717 Washington Ave.

Doors open 5 p.m.

Food will be served until 7 p.m. Highlights of the menu include German bratwurst with onions and sauerkraut on a bun, homemade pork schnitzel with jager/hunter gravy, Black Forest oven-baked chicken thighs and legs and homemade German goulash.

Joseph Kroboth Polka Band will take the stage 7-10 p.m.

Tickets can be purchased at the fire company.

The Festival of Bands will be held 2:30 p.m. Sept. 25 at Northampton Area High School, 1619 Laubach Ave.

Eighty-five musicians from the Municipal, Marine, Pioneer and Allentown bands will showcase their musical talents, returning to stage after a two-year hiatus during the COVID-19 pandemic. The music of Sammy Davis Jr., The Doors, Tina Turner, The Beatles and more and songs from “The Grease Musical” will be featured.

The school offers convenient parking and handicap accessibility.

While there is no admission charge for the concert, a freewill offering will be collected. Proceeds from the concert will remain in the Lehigh Valley to benefit The Arc of Lehigh and Northampton Counties.

Northampton Farmers Market continues through September. Visit Municipal Park, Smith Lane and Laubach Avenue, 3-6:30 p.m. Tuesdays.

Applications for the borough’s Hometown Heroes banner program will continue to be accepted throughout the month.

Catholic War Veterans Post 454 will be hosting a BYOB murder mystery event Oct. 8. The cost of a ticket includes a catered meal and certain refreshments.
