Garden Club meeting Sept. 15

The Bethlehem Garden Club will meet at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15 at the Moravian Church, 3730 Jacksonville Road. The doors will open at 12:30 p.m. Deborah Pomroy will speak on the Art of Armature, the equipment or framework one needs in making a design.

Ham radio classes begin Sept. 17

The Delaware-Lehigh Amateur Radio Club will hold 10 free entry-level and General Class license classes from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesdays beginning Sept. 27 in the 911 Center, 100 Gracedale Ave., Nazareth.

The classes, for ages eight through 80-plus, will prepare students to take the Federal Communications Commission’s Amateur basic license examination. The last class will be for FCC license testing.

LV Writers’ Group meet Sept. 24

Greater Lehigh Valley Writers’ Group (GLVWG) will hold its next meeting Sept. 24 from 10 a.m. to noon. The meeting is offered in a hybrid format-in-person at the Palmer Branch of the Easton Library, 1 Weller Place, Palmer, and online via Zoom.

From 11 a.m.-noon, author and retired English professor Ginny Shephard, Ph.D., will present, “Setting in Literature: Introduction,” which will include exercises that delve deeper into creating two must haves in literature: setting and atmosphere, as well as the function and necessity of emotion. The morning workshop is free and open to the public.

From 1 p.m. Shephard will present, “Crafting Settings: What, How, and Relation to Plot.”

Oct. 7 ‘Souper Day’ deadline Sept. 27

New Bethany Ministries (NBM) will hold its 31st annual Souper Day on Friday, Oct. 7 at noon at The Event Center at Blue in Bethlehem. Funds raised from the event will be used to support New Bethany’s ongoing efforts to combat housing and food insecurity in the Lehigh Valley.

Laurie Hackett, director of communications and philanthropy for Air Products, is Souper Day’s honorary chair. The lunchtime event will feature keynote speaker Wandalynn Enix of Bethlehem City Council, and former WFMZ - Channel 69 reporter and news anchor Will Lewis as emcee.

Community Action town hall meeting Sept. 27

A town hall meeting is set for Tuesday, Sept. 27 at 6 p.m. in the community room of South Side Lofts, 435 Hayes St., Bethlehem.

The meeting is part of an ongoing effort to fully understand the needs of the community and allow community-wide participation in guiding the future of community action. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and refreshments will be provided.

A Spanish translator will be on site.

The Loft Theater at the Ice House, hosting The Saturday’s Child Family Series and The Ice House Tonight Series, is now under the leadership of the Ice House Performing Arts Collaborative for cultural equity and the emerging artists of Bethlehem.

Scarcrow contest deadline Sept. 23

Downtown Historic Bethlehem’s Scarecrow Showdown contest features three categories: Open (ages 18 and over); kids only; and businesses.
