Hanover Township - Lehigh County

September 17 shredding and recycling event

State Rep. Jeanne McNeill will hold an unwanted electronics recycling and documents shredding event from 9 to 11 a.m. Sept. 17 in the parking lot of Francis H. Sheckler Elementary School, 251 N. 14th St., Catasauqua. Participants must be residents of either the Borough of Catasauqua or Hanover Township, both in Lehigh County, and proof of residency will be required.

There is no fee for items such as computers, monitors, DVD and video players or gaming systems. There is a fee for televisions. Limit of 10 boxes of documents per vehicle.

Information about preventing identity theft from the state Attorney General’s office and various state programs such as the Children’s Health Insurance Program, Medicaid and the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program.

Northampton County

Nominees sought for October County Ferstival

Northampton County will hold its Third annual County Festival from 11 a.m.– 6 p.m. Oct. 8 at Louise Moore Park. The festivities will include an awards ceremony for outstanding residents in the categories of: Volunteer, Youth, Business, Veteran and Emergency Personnel.

To nominate a deserving volunteer, youth, business, veteran or emergency personnel, please send an email to dtomaino@northamptoncounty.org with a request for the nomination form. Submissions are due by Sept. 16.

Nominations for outstanding city and municipal employees will be submitted by their respective municipalities.

Winners will be selected by an awards committee and announced at the County Festival Oct 8.

Controller’s office gets ‘pass’

The County Controller’s Office announces that it has received a “Pass” result for its triennial peer review for the period of Jan. 1, 2019 through Dec. 31, 2021. The audit was conducted by the Association of Local Government Auditors and found the Controller’s Office to be in compliance with Government Auditing Standards issued by the Comptroller General of the United States.

“We are required to complete a peer review every three years,” said Anthony Sabino, county audit manager. “Organizations can receive a rating of Pass, Pass with Deficiencies or Fail. Northampton County’s Controller Office received a rating of Pass.”

“I want to thank my staff for their hard work these last three years,” said Richard “Bucky” Szulborski, Northampton County controller. “Our team will continue to strive for excellence.”

The audit was conducted onsite by Chrystal Brooks, CIP of Harford County, Md., and Angela Hill of Tempe, Ariz.
