NV competes in LVL playoffs

The Northern Valley Lehigh Valley Legion baseball team qualified for the league playoffs and went 0-2 in the LVL’s postseason tournament last week to finish the season at 7-10-2 overall.

Northern Valley entered the tournament as the league’s No. 6 seed in the eight-team, double-elimination event. The took on No. 3 seed and eventual champ North Parkland in the first round and fell 9-0 in a five-inning game shortened by storms last Tuesday evening.

The Buffaloes’ Joe Algard pitched four hitless innings before being relieved by Noah Gunkle, who finished off the Chargers with a no-hit fifth inning.

The Chargers’ season came to an end last Wednesday with a 9-5 loss to the Carbon County Monarchs.

The No. 5 seed Monarchs took a 7-1 lead after three innings and added a run each in the fourth and fifth innings. Northern Valley added a run in the sixth and two in the seventh, but never brought the tying run to the plate.

Wesley George, Zach Russo and Cole Hausman each had two hits against Carbon.

North Parkland went through the league tournament with four straight wins, including a 3-2 walk-off victory in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat Lower Macungie in Monday’s league title game.

The Buffaloes and South Parkland, which won the league’s regular season title, will represent the LVL in this weekend’s Region 2 playoffs in Quakertown.
