Waves beat Dolphins

The Whitehall Waves were 310-148 winners over the Palmerton Dolphins in a Suburban Swim League meet on June 30 at Hokendauqua Park.

“I did put some kids in new events,” said Whitehall head coach Daniel Jablonski, “so it was nice to see a pretty good effort.”

The Waves set two records on June 30: one by Kendall Bashore in the 11-12 girls 50 backstroke (37.58) and one by the foursome of Derek Bashore, Mazin Makhoul, Xavier Makhoul, and Cory Sommers in the 9-10 boys 100 medley relay (1:23.32).

Kendall Bashore also won the 50 breaststroke (42.57).

“In breaststroke, I was doing my turn and I saw the girl in the far lane coming close to the wall, so I pushed off and started swimming my fastest,” Bashore said.

Coach Jablonski sees great things for Bashore now and in the future.

“Kendall is massively ahead of the field,” Jablonski said. “She’s a really good swimmer, she listens, she wants to improve.”

Whitehall’s Bella Dinh, Karina Makhoul, Abigail Fritchman, and Riley Bashore opened the meet with a 100 free relay victory in girls 8 & Under (1:40.50).

Alex Dai won the 15 & Over 50 free for Whitehall’s boys (27.87).

Isabella Molina, Zoe Kreiner, Kendall Bashore, and Rylan Young combined to win the 11-12 100 medley relay (1:16.54), and Evan Urick, Alex Beckel, Griffin Werner, and Elias Eilan won the same event for the boys (1:45.58).

Neave Doyle, Bailey Seibert, Emma Sargent, and Alexis Quach took first place in the 13 & Over 200 medley relay (2:24.04), as well as Gabe O’Brien, Alex Madden, Quinn Doyle, and Wayne Streat (2:17.84).

Tarek Makhoul was the winner in the 8 & Under 25 breaststroke (48.76) and the backstroke (33.58).

Emma Dai was first in the 9-10 breast (24.75), Cory Sommers won the boys 9-10 breast (29.88), Emma Sargent took first place in the 13-14 50 breast (43.71), and Alex Madden won the 15 & Over breast (34.57).

Elias Eilan was the 200 IM winner (1:36.41), and in the 15 & Overs, Neave Doyle took first (1:12.56), and Gabe O’Brien also won (1:14.57).

First place winners for Whitehall in butterfly were Johnny Serratore (38.62), Gianna Girardi (24.00), Cory Sommers (19.21), Zoe Kreiner (45.28), Griffin Werner (54.38), Emma Sargent (37.90), and Quinn Doyle (32.84).

Derek Bashore won backstroke (20.52), as well as Elias Eilan (47.39), Neave Doyle (32.96), and Alex Dai (33.78).

In freestyle, Bella Dinh (24.97), Johnny Serratore (27.02), Emma Dai (16.97), Jazdiel Avrelo (19.25), Lexi Penn (37.39), Justin George (1:27.34), and Kenny Dai (1:04.64) scored first-place points for the Waves.

Crescendo relay winners were Karina Makhoul, Kendall Bashore, Neave Doyle, Greta O’Brien, and Emma Dai (2:13.59), and Johnny Serratore, Elias Eilan, Kenny Dai, Justin George, and Derek Bashore (2:23.58).

“Our girls crescendo was our champs crescendo and that looked pretty good off the block,” said Jablonski. “I liked that I put every single boy in the 9-10 age group in the 25 free today, three in the scoring heat who haven’t had a chance to score and then put everybody else in exhibition, so it was fun to see them all, and they were pretty quick too.”
