S. David Irons

S. David Irons, 81, of Kreidersville, died June 7, 2022, after a battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was the husband of Suzanne (Bittinger) for 60 years.

Born in Hanover, he was a son of the late John and Elizabeth (Diffinderfer) Irons.

He was a graduate of Penn State University and earned a master’s degree in mineral sciences.

He was a research engineer for Bethlehem Steel, where he developed three patents used in the steel manufacturing process.

He was an antique dealer for more than 50 years. As a specialist in collecting pressing irons, he was a guest on the Martha Stewart Show. His antique iron collection is one of the largest collections in the world. He was an author of three books on antique pressing irons.

He was a member of Zion’s Stone United Church of Christ, Kreidersville.

He was a member of the Kreidersville Covered Bridge Association. He was the chairman of the Allen Township Planning Commission for many years.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Marty of Wallingford and Mike of Queenstown, Md.; a daughter, Abby Spencer of Bath; and nine grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a brother, Steele Irons of Marblehead, Mass.

Services will be private.
