An Allentown male faces assault charges after allegedly striking an officer in the face during a scuffle when officers attempted to arrest him at a location in the 2800 block of Windy Hill Road, Salisbury Township.

Joey Mercado, 47, is charged with alleged aggravated assault on a police officer, resisting arrest/other law enforcement, simple assault and harassment, according to Salisbury police.

A news release detailed the incident as follows:

Officers were called to the Windy Hill Road residence for a disturbance May 21. When officers attempted to place Mercado under arrest, he flailed his arms and ran through the residence. When officers attempted to taken him into custody for a second time Mercado fought with officers, including striking one in the face. He was eventually placed under arrest and taken to the Salisbury Township Police Department headquarters, South Pike Avenue and Lehigh County Jail where he was confined as of May 22.
