LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Rain fails to dampen Spring Thaw spirits

On May 7, it rained all morning, all afternoon and all evening - but this did not dampen the enthusiasm and support for the Spring Thaw Rendezvous on the River event, held at Tri-Boro Sportsmen Club, 2110 Canal St., Northampton.

This annual event takes place the first Saturday in May. Scores of bikers and motorcycle clubs attend.

Event founder and organizer B.W. Hammer talked about the importance of this event.

“It symbolically kicks off the riding season while supporting three nonprofit organizations,” he said.

This year, bikers, unable to ride due to the weather, still attended and were very eager to listen to live music, enjoy food and refreshments, spend money on vendors and a 50/50 and have a fun, festive day.

Proceeds from the Spring Thaw Rendezvous benefit Northampton Fire Department, Valor and Camp Freedom.

Valor is a nonprofit that provides many case management services for veterans.

Camp Freedom offers hope and help to veterans, first responders, their family members and Gold Star families onto a pathway of recovery and strives to keep families together through peer-to-peer interaction, camaraderie and outdoor activities.
