Borinqueneers mural unveiled

Press photos by Kiera Wilhem National Borinqueneers Day April 13 was marked locally by the unveiling of a table-top mural created by Malta con Lech located on the South Bethlehem Greenway. The domino table installation just off Taylor Street last year is the first phase of the memorial honoring the Borinqueneers, the nickname given 65th Infantry Regiment during the Korean War. The 65th Infantry Regiment participated in World War I, World War II and the Korean War and in what is known as the Global War on Terrorism. On June 10, 2014, the 65th Infantry was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal. The regiment's motto is “Honor et Fidelitas,” Latin for “Honor and Fidelity.” The domino table added a new amenity to the Greenway, allowing Southside residents and guests an opportunity to enjoy a beloved game to the Hispanic and Latino community.
