Vera Cruz Community Association egg hunt set for April 16

It is time to ready Easter baskets and bonnets and Earth Day clean up skills.

The Vera Cruz Community Association will host its egg hunt April 16.

The event will be held, rain or shine, at Mystic Chain Park, 3718 Main Road East.

If the weather is cooperative, eggs will be hidden on the park lawn for participants to find. Rainy weather will change the event to a drive-thru gathering.

The egg hunt starts promptly 1 p.m.

April 23 brings volunteer fueled clean up efforts in Lower and Upper Milford townships.

The annual clean up day in Lower Milford Township will be held 8 a.m. to noon and volunteers are needed. In April 2021, cleanup work was followed by a complimentary picnic lunch for volunteers.

For information and to register, contact the township secretary at 610-967-4949, extension 111.

Meanwhile, volunteers in Upper Milford Township and Emmaus borough will work together in an annual cleanup.

Organized by the Joint Environmental Advisory Council of the two municipalities, this year’s event will start 8 a.m. and volunteers will meet at Emmaus Community Park, Shimerville Road.

In recent years, volunteers cleared yard debris from historic sites in the borough and parks in the township, tidied the grounds at the Emmaus Public Library, the home library for residents of Emmaus and Macungie boroughs and Upper Milford Township and collected litter along the railroad tracks near Weis Markets, Chestnut Street.

Scout Troops, service clubs and employees from local businesses have given of their time in the annual event.

Organizers will provide gloves, safety vests and bags if you need them. Reach out to Upper Milford Township by email at info@uppermilford.net or by phone at 610-966-3233.

The cleanup will be held rain or shine.

Residents of Upper Milford Township and Emmaus borough also may take advantage of electronics recycling and free document shredding services during cleanup day.

Electronics recycling will be available 9 a.m. to noon at Emmaus Community Park. There is a fee for some items. A price list is available through the Upper Milford Township website. Examples of items accepted include computers, printers and batteries.

Document shredding will be offered at no charge; however, there is a limit of four office file size boxes per household. Any type of office paper will be accepted. Unacceptable items include newspapers, cardboard and books.

Electronics recycling and document shredding is available to township and borough residents only. Services are not extended to businesses.

Both events commemorate Earth Day, April 22, begun in 1970 and originally conceived as a teach-in event at colleges and universities.

Lower and Upper Milford township offices will be closed April 15.

The Lower Milford Township board of supervisors meets 6:30 p.m. April 21 in the township building, 7607 Chestnut Hill Church Road.

The Upper Milford Township board of supervisors meets 7 p.m. April 7 and April 21 in the township building, 5671 Chestnut St. A Zoom option also is available. Visit the township website for details.
