Bath resident celebrates 100th

Esther Mae Fenstermaker, of Bath, celebrated her 100th birthday March 13 surrounded by family and friends at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 206 E. Main St., Bath.

All six of her children - Randy, Daniel, Donna, Gloria, Nancy and Casey - were able to attend the party. Esther’s baby sister, Pauline Young, 95 years old, also attended the event.

Esther’s son Randy is a Bath Borough councilman and former council vice president.

The party featured food, refreshments, photos from throughout the years, birthday balloons and a social hall filled with family, friends and other well-wishers.

Esther was born March 11, 1922. Her first husband, Alfred Faustner, died at a young age. She then married the late Emery Fenstermaker, and they spent 54 years together.

With six children at home, Esther worked all her life as a homemaker and loved the role of grandmother.

When asked the secret to her longevity, she said she really had none but added she never smoked, she drank alcohol only socially and she watched her diet to not overeat.

Dignitaries were on hand and offered citations noting the event. State Rep. Ann Flood, R-138th; Bath Mayor Fiorella Reginelli-Mirabito; and Brian Fenstermaker, from the office of state Sen. Mario Scavello, R-40th, wished Esther many more birthdays. Brian is Esther’s great-nephew.

Esther was delighted with the gathering and said she looks forward to her 101st birthday and to her baby sister Pauline’s 96th birthday party later this year.
