Geraldine M. Cole Hartenstine Ward

Geraldine “Jill” M. Cole Hartenstine Ward, 92, of Bethlehem, died March 6, 2022. Born in Allentown, she was a daughter of the late William B. Cole and Helen I. (Rothenberger) Cole. She was the wife of the late Charles R. Ward for 42 years.

She was a waitress at the Casa Del Blu, The Maples Restaurant, Hess’s Patio, the Bethlehem Steel or with the children in the lunchroom at Broughal Middle School.

She was a volunteer for the Trinity Episcopal Church soup kitchen, and for 27 years at St. Luke’s Hospital, 20 years at Musikfest and for Special Olympics. She performed with the Lehigh Valley Cloggers.

She received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the President of the United States, along with the 2018 Northampton County Outstanding Senior Award.

She is survived by three sons, William Hartenstine (Niki) of Schnecksville; Michael Hartenstine (Donna) of Lake Bluff, Ill. and Bruce Ward (Kim) of Bethlehem; six siblings, Jean Litzenberger, Albert, Charles, Raymond, Richard and Donald Cole; seven grandchildren, Tracy, Lori, Jill, Michael, Beau, Adrienne and Alyssa; and five great-grandchildren, Kennedy, Olivia, David, Luke and Brody.

She was predeceased by a brother, Thomas Cole; a grandson, Michael Ward; a son, Dennis Ward; and first husband, Charles H. Hartenstine.
