NORTH WHITEHALL: Lions plan hoagie fundraiser

BY SUSAN RUMBLE

Special to The Press

Upper Lehigh Lions Club President Rich Wisser reports the basket social and Schnecktucky Derby events planned for spring have been canceled.

“Certainly, tough decisions, but the right ones with the rise in COVID-19 cases,” Wisser says. “We will once again rely on hoagie sales as our main fundraiser.”

Call Kathi at 610-799-3431 by Feb. 28 to order hoagies, which will be prepared and ready for pickup at the Schnecksville Fire Company after 3 p.m. March 8.

Hoagies are available with different options including onions, peppers and tuna.

St. John’s United Church of Christ, 1415 Rising Sun Road, Laurys Station, will celebrate Ash Wednesday 7:30 p.m. March 2.

Check the website for information on the service in case in-person worship cannot be held due to COVID-19.

Even if the in-person service is canceled, all are invited to drive by the church to receive an imposition of ashes.

Pastor James Gottwald reports ashes are a symbol of repentance and humility before God.

“They remind us that we are dust, and to dust we shall return,” the pastor said.

Ashes may be received at the west side of the church from noon-1 p.m. or 5-6 p.m. March 2.

Union United Church of Christ, Neffs, will sponsor a takeout only pancake supper from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Shrove Tuesday, March 1.

The meal is free, but tickets must be picked up in advance to enable the right amount of food to be prepared.

Union UCC will celebrate Dr. Seuss Sunday on Feb. 27. Everyone is encouraged to dress up as his or her favorite Dr. Seuss character for Sunday School classes, which will meet in Fellowship Hall at 9:15 a.m.

Union Lutheran Church, Schnecksville, will be providing three options for the worship 7 p.m. Ash Wednesday, March 2.

These include in-person in the sanctuary, outside in cars on the parking lot, or virtual.

Union Lutheran will have a soup sale each Wednesday in Lent starting March 6.

Advanced orders are not needed. Soup is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

After two years of COVID-19 related cancellations, Schnecksville Fire Company volunteers are happy to announce the return of the all-you-can-eat buffet breakfast 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Feb. 27.

Eggs, ham, sausage, home fries, pancakes, creamed dried beef, toast, juice, hot chocolate and coffee are available.

We look forward to seeing our old friends after this long absence.
