Another big week for BC

There aren’t many weeks during the regular season where Bethlehem Catholic’s wrestling team gets excited about, but last week was one of them.

The Hawks improved to 6-0 on the dual meet season after knocking off Easton 49-9 and then earned a 30-18 win over Notre Dame Green Pond in their toughest bout of the season.

It was a big week for the team and head coach Jeff Karam acknowledged the importance for it, especially last Saturday’s win over Notre Dame.

“Last week was great and really important for the program to be involved in matches with that level of excitement and energy,” said Karam. “It will provide needed experience for the coming weeks. Notre Dame really gave us a great challenge and I think it will benefit both programs.”

The Hawks have another big week ahead with Parkland (10-2) and Freedom (15-2) on deck before heading to Saturday’s EPC wrestling championships where they’ll take on Nazareth (11-0) in their biggest match of the season.

The Blue Eagles are the only team in the area that can match the Hawks quality on paper and it will give area fans their best match of the season.

“Really looking forward to the next challenge this weekend against Nazareth,” said Karam. “It should be and great dual and hopefully we can pick things up from the match that can help us for the following week. Assuming we both meet up again in team districts.”

Freedom has a rivalry week slate with Liberty on Wednesday and then Thursday’s battle against Becahi. The Pates hope they can find themselves in the mix to wrestle in Saturday’s third place round, but that won’t be determined until after Thursday’s meets. At the very least, they’ll be wrestling in the fifth place bout.

Liberty (9-7) has their match with the Pates followed by East Stroudsburg North on Thursday.

The Hurricanes are likely to wrestle for ninth place this weekend.
