Wrestlers go 3-2 at Indian Duals

The Whitehall wrestling team went 3-2 at the Indian Duals at Lehighton High School this past weekend. Honesdale won the event by going 5-0. Cedar Cliff was 4-1 and Stroudsburg was also 3-2.

The Zephs beat Jim Thorpe to open the tournament, 53-18. Dayvion Marshmon (106), Damond Pascoe (113), Tyler Cunningham (132), Seth Pascoe (145), Melquan Warren (189) and Anthony Saed (285) all picked up pins for the Zephs in the match.

Nolan Schmeckenbecher (120) won by major decision as did Hudson Saylor (138) and Xavier Arner (152). Johnny Colon (126) won by tech fall.

The Zephs would fall to eventual champ Honesdale, 43-28.

Daymeion Marshmon (106), Damond Pascoe (113), Johnny Colon (126) and Melquan Warren (189) all won by fall for WHS. Xavier Arner won by major decision at 152.

Whitehall would knock off Stroudsburg 38-33 in the next bout. The Mounties jumped out to an 18-0 lead before Johnny Colon (126) and Tyler Cunningham (132) earned pins to cut it to 18-12.

Seth Pascoe (145) and Preston Saylor (160) both won by pin and Xavier Arner (152) earned a tech fall win in between as the Zeph’s went up 29-21 after 160.

The Mounties took a 33-29 lead before a Melquan Warren forfeit made it 35-33, Whitehall. Anthony Saed’s 7-5 decision at 285 iced the match for the Zephs.

The Zephs were edged by Cedar Cliff 34-33.

Whitehall jumped out to a 14-4 lead thanks to a Tyler Cunningham pin at 132, a Seth Pascoe, 11-9 decision at 145 and an Xavier Arner tech fall win at 152.

Cedar Cliff would take a 16-14 lead before a Melquan Warren tech fall put the Zephs back on top 19-16. A fall put Cedar Cliff back up 22-19 before Anthony Saed pinned his opponent and Daymeion Marshmon won a 5-3 decision to give the Zephs a 28-22 lead.

But two pins by Cedar Cliff tied the match at 28-28 and eventually gave them a 34-28 advantage. Johnny Colon’s tech fall made the final score 34-33.

Whitehall would rally to knock off Lehighton 35-34.

The Zephs trailed 34-20 heading into the final three bouts. Johnny Colon pinned his opponent at 126 to cut the score to 34-26. Tyler Cunningham’s pin brought the Zephs to within two at 34-32 before Hudson Saylor’s 8-5 decision won it.

Xavier Arner earned a tech fall at 152, Melquan Warren had a fall at 189 and Anthony Saed had a 3-1 decision at 285 while Damond Pascoe had a fall at 113.
