Robert A. Gold Jr.

Robert A. Gold Jr., 89, of Wescosville, formerly of Mountain Top, Luzerne County, Bradenton, Fla. and Narberth, died peacefully Oct. 24, 2021, in St. Luke’s Hospice House, Lower Saucon Township.

He was the husband of Mary T. (McGinty) Downey Gold and the late Sonia (Dudrick) Gold.

Born Aug. 31, 1932, in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Robert A. Gold Sr. and Eva (Caffery) Gold.

He faithfully and honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War era.

A sales representative for the Xerox Corp., Rochester, N.Y. for more than 35 years, he retired in 1996.

He was a member of St. Ann Roman Catholic Church, Emmaus, and the Knights of Columbus.

His favorite pastimes included his love of golf and playing cards.

In addition to his wife, Mary, to whom he was married 27 years, he is survived by children Patricia G. Brodginski of Mountain Top, John H. Gold (Kathy) of Danville, Stephen M. Gold and James R. Gold, both of Wilkes-Barre, Aiden C. Downey (Yanna) of Atlanta, Ga., Stephen J. Downey of Austin, Texas, and Craig L. Downey (Kristen) with whom he resided; sister Jean Marie Doerpinghaus of Alexandria, Va.; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandsons; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Nov. 6 in St. Jude Roman Catholic Church, 420 S. Mountain Blvd., Mountain Top, Luzerne County.

Family and friends may pay their respects 10-10:45 a.m. Saturday in the church.

Private inurnment will take place at St. James Cemetery, Pleasant Mount, Wayne County.
