EHS names student of the week

Q. In what grade are you currently enrolled?

A. I graduated from Emmaus High School in June.

Q. Please provide the first names of your family members: parents, siblings and pets.

A. My mom Jolene, my dad Jon and my brother Nathan.

Q. What was your favorite subject? Why?

A. It’s really hard for me to pinpoint a subject that I’ve loved the most throughout my years at Emmaus High School. I’ve had a lot of classes that I’ve really enjoyed. Some of my favorites have been AP Government and Politics, AP Psychology and AP Chemistry. The teachers I had for these classes really tried to make them special (especially since we were online for most of this year).

Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?

A. I received the Woman’s Club of Emmaus Girl of the Month for Theater, honor roll, National Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society and Tri-M Music Honor Society.

Q. Were you involved in any extracurricular activities? How did COVID-19 impact these activities?

A. ?Emmaus High School Theater Department (and productions), secretary of the theatre department 2020-2021, AccaBella, Chorale, Hornet Ambassadors, freshman mentors and vocal lessons with Escher Studios. Being involved in music and theater definitely took a different shape this year. We had to adapt to being online. It was challenging at the beginning to not be able to be with everybody, but as things began to open up, we were able to have after school rehearsals for choir and a spring musical, Tuck Everlasting.

Q. What do you consider your biggest challenge to date?

A. I think my biggest challenge to date has been adapting to this year. It’s been a real learning curve trying to become more independent, realizing what truly makes me happy and figuring out how to keep myself content. I’m honestly grateful I had this opportunity to learn about myself and think about how I want to manage my life as I get older.

Q. What is your next goal after high school?

A. After high school, I want to start making the life I want for myself. I want to put myself out there and seize every opportunity I can. I’m excited to go to college and try all kinds of new things.

Q. Whom do you admire? Why?

A. My voice teacher Ellie Escher. I’ve looked up to her for a long time. She has been such a positive force in my life. Ever since I began lessons with her, she has always made me feel supported, happy and confident. Whenever I’d get worried about an audition or performance, she’d remind me that singing is supposed to be fun and that I just need to enjoy it. I’m so thankful to have her in my life.

Q. For what would you like to be remembered?

A. I’ve always been passionate about making people feel included. I hope kids at Emmaus, especially in the theatre department remember that I tried to make them feel heard and supported.

Q. Do you have any advice for your peers?

A. If there’s anything I’ve learned this year it’s that you need to make the most of everything. Try to take in every moment and find the joy in everyday tasks. You have to keep finding the good in things.
