Letter to the Editor: Fireworks damage Hokey church

To the Editor:

As a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Hokendauqua, I was disheartened to learn that some individuals’ fireworks have damaged the rear of our church home. Our congregation spent a lot of money to have the church painted, and it looks beautiful - as previously reported by Stacey Koch in The Press.

For many years, the grass parking lot at the rear of the church has been used by some neighborhood families to set off July 4 fireworks. They have been asked to be careful and to keep the fireworks away from the church. Each year, that parking area is covered with fireworks debris they fail to clean up.

And now, our church - which was just painted - is damaged by their carelessness! I have always enjoyed fireworks July 4. Coplay’s remain my all-time favorite. But the problem of irresponsible fireworks displays needs to be addressed before more property is damaged or someone gets hurt.
