School board accepts retirements, resignations, appointments

At the June 14 virtual Whitehall-Coplay School Board meeting, members approved retirements for Donna Merkel, special education secretary at the district office; Annette Armstrong, payroll specialist at the district office; and Stephanie Edwards, Mu Alpha Theta adviser.

The board approved the resignations of James Walter, marching band winds instructor; James Price, paraprofessional at Zephyr Elementary School; Eladio Gonzalez, security at Whitehall High School; David Wacker, technology and engineering teacher and Engineering Club adviser at WHS; Sarah Waldon, learning support teacher at Zephyr Elementary; Annamarie O’Neill, debate team adviser; Kelly Lesh, English National Honor Society adviser; and Justin Boandl, Science Olympiad adviser.

New appointments include David Stauffer, districtwide curriculum supervisor of educational technology, an Act 93 position, at the rate of $92,000 per year; Tatiana Berrios, districtwide supervisor of educational equity, an Act 93 position, at the rate of $92,000 per year; Tina Champ, districtwide assistant business manager/superintendent of financial operations, at the rate of $85,000 per year; Jonathan Ozimek, secretary to Whitehall-Coplay Middle School assistant principals, at $33,864; Kaylea Dietrich, WCMS math teacher, at $63,978; Christina Bueti, WHS Spanish teacher, at $60,476; Gayle Ganser, first-grade teacher at Gockley Elementary School, at $56,120; and Amanda Ruch, fourth-grade teacher at Zephyr, at $55,404.

Temporary professionals include Rochelle Fagan, fourth-grade teacher at Zephyr, at $53,212; Nicole Hodrick, fifth-grade teacher at Zephyr, at $52,299; Maria Brody, fourth-grade teacher at Zephyr, at $53,212; Pamela Silverthorn, reading specialist at Zephyr, at $62,776; Michele Muenker, reading specialist at Zephyr, at $62,776; Eva-Marie Reardon, fifth-grade teacher at Zephyr, at $60,476; Andrea Campbell, EL specialist at WHS, at $54,221; Jenna Anthony, second-grade teacher at Steckel Elementary School, at $56,120; and Rodina Younes, kindergarten teacher at Gockley Elementary, at $53,212.

Paraprofessionals include Roula Koury, ESL at Zephyr, at $18.85 per hour; Yara Raffoul, ESL at WCMS, at $18.85 per hour; Michelle Frye, sixth-grade inclusion at WCMS, with a rate increase to $19.59 per hour; Tricia Brosky, second-grade inclusion at Steckel Elementary, with a rate increase to $20.02 per hour; Sonia Alkhal, K-1 inclusion at Gockley, with a rate increase to $20.02; and Archangela Villa, K-1 inclusion at Gockley, at $20.02 per hour.

Approved district summer school teachers, at the hourly rate of $36 per hour, June 21-July 8, include Gockley teachers Cynthia Forster, Heather Marth, Heather Moore, Gayle Ganser, Caroline Nauroth and Rodina Younes; Steckel teachers Michelle Lindenmuth, Erin Pachter, Samantha Solomon, Morgan Polony, Mathew Shultz and Stephanie Steinberg; Zephyr teachers Rochelle Fagan, Christine Laudato, Dana Mensher, Mark Mihalko and Rachel Sculley; and Gockley, Steckel and Zephyr teachers Austin Berg, Rebecca Darling, floating substitute Shey Marth and substitute Ashley Donegan.

WCMS summer school teachers include Stephen Piston, sixth-grade math; Sharon Gumhold, seventh-grade math; Jessica Englert, eighth-grade math; Miranda Dangler, sixth-grade English/language arts; Laura Tiers, seventh-grade English/language arts; Mark Fatzinger, eighth-grade English/language arts; Jennifer Knerr, sixth-grade science; Deborah Luff, seventh-grade science; Samantha Neas, eighth-grade science; Vincent Santa Maria, social studies floater; Lisa Barr, special education support; and Joan Crowley, substitute floater.

The next school board meetings will be 7 p.m. July 12 and Aug. 9 in the LGI room at WHS. The public may attend these meetings in person.

Committee meetings on education/student activities, operations/transportation and finance/personnel are planned for 4 p.m. July 28 and Aug. 23.
