Daniel Stephen Morekin

Daniel Stephen Morekin, 71, of Whitehall, died June 13, 2021, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Fountain Hill.

Born in Northampton, he was a son of the late Stephen and Elizabeth (Bolha) Morekin.

He was a U.S. Marine lance corporal, infantry squad leader Vietnam combat veteran. He was part of Operation Oklahoma Hills and earned the Bronze Star for saving two men while taking on enemy fire.

He earned college degrees.

He was a mechanical engineer for the Tennessee Valley Authority at the Watts Bar Nuclear Plant. He was a plant engineer at American Nickeloid and was a head engineer at Diamond Rio and Keen Transport. He designed a 40-ton truck for mining operations, assisted in the design of a 124-ton forging hammer and designed innovations in ready-mix cement vehicles.

He was a black belt in Kung Fu.

He is survived by two brothers, David and his wife Helen and Stephen; two sisters, Monica Serfas and her husband Robert and Petrina; three nephews, Michael, Matthew and Aaron; and four nieces, Elizabeth, Michele, Stephanie and Melanie.

Services will be private.
