LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Whitehall Township Public Library: Library plans book talks for adults, virtual programs for kids

This year, the library will host a series of outdoor book talks for patrons ages 18 and up. The talks began June 9 and will continue 11 a.m. every other Wednesday through Aug. 18. The next meeting will be June 23. We’ll talk about anything you’ve been reading lately.

Masks are recommended for anyone who attends, and you’ll need to bring your own chair or picnic blanket or sit at the picnic table.

This event is subject to change. There are no rain dates. We hope to move inside for July and August.

Join the American Swedish Historical Museum for a virtual program to discover the magic and mystery of Scandinavian wildlife as part of the Tails and Tales summer reading program. We’ll discuss the relationship between the Scandinavian people and their indigenous wildlife throughout history - an epic tale of predator vs. prey. Learn about the animals through folk art, tales, tradition and conservation.

We’ll explore the world of Swedish fauna, from Dala horses and enchanted creatures to the national animal - the moose. Learn about animal tracks and facts while we create our own interpretation of traditional crafts.

This program will be held on 11 a.m. June 24 and July 29 via Zoom. The program is the same on both days, so you only need to register for one session.

Request the link by emailing Ms. Santaliz at santaliz.l@whitehallpl.org. Each program has a limit of 30 kids, so be sure to request the link early. That will also give you time to pick up the kits you’ll need for the craft.

The 2021 summer reading program theme is Tails and Tales, and it’ll feature all kinds of animals. The program is going on now through 1 p.m. Aug. 14.

You can register and log books online at any time. Adults have the option to register and log books online or on paper.

You can also watch for different contests, virtual programs and at-home activities. We’re currently scheduling programs with Super Science & Amazing Art, American Swedish Historical Museum and other events of our own.

We will have most of our programs out at the picnic area and limited inside programs. Stay tuned for more information as we work on a schedule to keep patrons safe.
