When the polls closed at the New Tripoli Fire Company on May 18, the ballot count was higher than is usual for a nonpresidential Primary Election.

Sabrina Pendelton, majority inspector, spoke with The Press.

“Four hundred and 11 people voted here today,” Pendelton said.

“Typically, 150 vote. Turnout today was a lot better than I expected.

“Normally the year after a presidential election people don’t seem to want to come in.”

Poll worker Beth Alboucq also spoke with The Press.

“This was a higher turnout than expected,” Alboucq, said. “This was a very contentious election because of the school board.”

Pendelton agreed.

“The referendum and school board elections were the big topics,” she said.

Northwestern Lehigh School Board candidate Rosemary Lister agreed.

“I thought it was a great turnout,” said Lister, who was running to retain her position on the school board. “It’s my honor to serve and an honor to be here.”

Lister was talking to voters in the parking lot, along with several other school board hopefuls, including Becky Hite.

“I decided to run because there wasn’t a voice for elementary age children,” she said.

Hite has two children attending school in the district.

“There should be a constable available at every polling place.” The past 11 years has left the fire company location without one,” said Constable James Tews. PRESS PHOTOS BY ANNA GILGOFF
“I've been doing this since I was 17 years old,” said Majority Inspector Sabrina Pendelton, Her mother also served in a similar capacity.
