LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

GUEST VIEW Highway Safety Network offers pedestrian safety tips

With the weather warming up, people will be going outside to walk or run.

Here are a few tips to stay safe:

·Always face traffic so you can see vehicles coming and drivers can see you.

?·Wear brightly colored clothing so drivers can see you more easily.

?·Avoid distractions like talking on the phone, texting, playing games and wearing headphones/earbuds.

?·If out at night, use a flashlight, wear reflective clothing, a safety vest or reflective striping.

·?Avoid traveling by foot if you are intoxicated.

·?Cross at crosswalks and not between parked vehicles. Look left-right-left before crossing.

·?Watch for turning vehicles and for vehicles on streets with multiple lanes of travel in the same direction.

?·Always use sidewalks if available.

·?Obey the pedestrian traffic signals.

?·Watch your children, as they are unable to judge a vehicles speed.

Drivers, please remember to yield to pedestrians in the crosswalk! We all share the road, so let’s do it safely!
