Carl Leonard Millard Jr.

Carl Leonard Millard Jr., 79, of Bath, died April 29, 2021, at St. Luke’s Hospital-Anderson campus, Easton. He was the husband of Carole (DeFrancisco) for 55 years.

Born in Bloomsburg, he was a son of the late Carl Sr. and Mary (Gosciminski) Millard.

He was a 1960 graduate of Bloomsburg High School. He earned both bachelor’s and a master’s degrees in business education from Bloomsburg State College, now Bloomsburg University.

He was a teacher at Delaware Valley High School, Frenchtown, N.J., for one year and at Pen Argyl High School for 39 years. He primarily taught business education, consumer economics, accounting and typing until he retired in 2004. Before his retirement, he also worked for the United Parcel Service and as an auditor for Moore Township, Northampton County.

He was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Church, Bath, and a former member of St. Roch’s Church, West Bangor.

He was named the 2006 Pennsylvania State Teachers Association Friend of Education Award. He was named the 1985 Lehigh Valley Numismatist of the Year.

He was a fourth degree Knight with Knights of Columbus Father DiNisco Council 3862, Bangor; a past president of the Pen Argyl Exchange Club; and a member of the Northampton Exchange Club. He was the president of the Lehigh Valley Coin Club and was a member of the Bethlehem, Allentown and Phillipsburg, N.J., coin clubs.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Carl “Chip” III of Silver Spring, Md., Christopher of Bath and Craig of Starkville, Miss.; two sisters, Jean with Mike Kosh of Redwood City, Calif., and Patty Shutt of Las Vegas, Nev.; two brothers, Joe with Mary Millard of Sunset Beach, N.C., and David with Rita Millard of Berwick; two brothers-in-law, Sam DeFrancisco of Bakersfield, Calif., and Tom with Eileen DeFrancisco of Middletown; a sister-in-law, Kathy with Scott Rex of Berwick; nieces; and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, Edward Millard; a brother-in-law, Bill Shutt; and a sister-in-law, Emily Millard.
