Spring means there will be work zones popping up across Pennsylvania and every year road workers are struck and injured or killed by motorists who do not drive safely through them.
Work Zone Awareness Week is April 26-30, so here are some driving safety tips to remember when traveling through a work zone.
·Slow down and obey the speed limit. Work zones can have automated speed enforcement, which means if you are driving 11 mph or more over the posted work zone speed limit you will receive a ticket in the mail.
·Turn on your headlights so you are more visible to road crew workers.
·Increase the following distance between you and the vehicle in front of you.
·Pay attention to signs and flaggers.
·Stay alert for changing traffic patterns.
·Watch for construction equipment entering or exiting the work zone.
·Avoid distractions such as cellphones or other devices.
Slow down, stay alert, and save a life.
Safety is everyone’s responsibility.
