Tennis team gets some wins

The Whitehall boys tennis team is seizing its opportunities, winning a couple more matches this season as they enter the final week of the regular season.

The Zephyrs picked up wins against Pen Argyl and East Stroudsburg North, raising their season record to 3-8.

They hosted the Green Knights last Saturday, earning a 4-1 victory over the denizens from the Colonial League. They’ve managed to gain some momentum down the stretch, winning two out of their last four matches.

At No. 1 singles, Josh Laky defeated Jayson Corsetti 6-4, 7-5.

After a tough battle at No. 1 singles, Nathan Mak was able to keep Pen Argyl’s Fred Blasi at bay, winning 6-1, 6-4 at No. 2 singles.

After winning two of the three singles matches, they were victorious in both doubles matches.

At No. 2 doubles, the duo of Serge Kasparian and Gabby Roustic won 7-6, 6-1 against Mason Beers and Trowne Irwin-Hill. Lex Prebosnyak and Jimmy Kaba won 6-3, 6-2 over Matthew Oakley and Andrew Kindesko at No. 3 doubles.

Prior to that win over the Green Knights, they defeated East Stroudsburg North 4-0.

They received strong performances across the board as both their singles and doubles players used their shot-making ability to keep the Timberwolves in check.

Josh Laky set the pace by defeating Jacob Karpinski 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles.

That strong play continued at No. 2 singles as Nathan Mak beat Anthony Rossi 6-2, 6-2.

At No. 3 singles, Zephyr Karim Wasfy defeated Mychael Rivera 6-0, 6-2 to complete the singles sweep.

In the lone doubles match, the duo of Serge Kasparian and Gabby Roustic bested the Timberwolf tandem of Mychael Rivera and Andrew Solcolovski 6-0, 6-0.

The Zephyrs hosted Nazareth on Monday, marking their second-to-last match of the regular season.

In that match, the Blue Eagles were able to blank the Zephs, 6-0. It served as another learning experience in a season that’s seen the growth of a lot of young players. Every player who took the court managed to take a few games, and that will help them as they move forward.

At No. 1 singles, Blue Eagle Alex Rodriguez defeated Josh Laky 6-1, 6-0, while Nazareth’s David Araujo was victorious over Nathan Mak 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 singles.

Nazareth also won the match at No. 3 singles as Ilias Phanzu beat Dan Labram 6-0, 6-3.

In No. 2 doubles, Eagle combo of Alay Patel and Nick Dawe defeated Serge Kasparian and Gabby Roustic 6-4, 6-2, while the pairing of Ishaan Patel and Logan Baltz bested Zephyr duo Lex Prebosnyak and Jimmy Kaba 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 doubles.

At No. 4 doubles, Sai Pulavarthy and Jordan Wagner defeated Zephs Antoni Szlagiewicz and Karim Wasfy 6-2, 6-1.
