Museum extends World War II exhibit

Two popular exhibits at the Liberty Bell Museum, 622 W. Hamilton St., Allentown, “World War II: Remembering 75 Years Ago” and “Christmas 1945” unveiled just prior to the 2020 pandemic imposed holiday shutdown of museums, followed by the severe winter weather in our area, has resulted in extending both displays through April 17.

Complimenting the museum’s replica Liberty Bell and Revolutionary War history are exhibit items on display from the personal collection of retired Maj. Gen. Gerald Still, of Bethlehem, including memorabilia from his late father, a World War II veteran, including medals, uniforms, letters, photos and a documentary on D-Day.

Shared from the holiday collections of Kathy Dewald, of Orwigsburg, are examples of patriotically themed period Christmas cards as well as the story of the newly developed American technology of V-mail, short for Victory Mail, using microfilm as the primary and secure method to correspond with soldiers stationed abroad during World War II.

Additional World War II era original Christmas cards are on loan from Ann Wertman, of New Tripoli.

The Liberty Bell Museum welcomes visitors by reservation noon to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday by calling 610-435-4232 or emailing info@libertybellmuseum.org.

COVID-19 guidelines are followed for the safety of all visitors.
