Lehigh supervisors deny land development plan

Lehigh Township Board of Supervisors began its Feb. 9 meeting by denying a land development plan, proposed by Terry Vandling, which was set to expire Feb. 28.

The Vandling issue was discussed at the Dec. 8, 2020, meeting. Supervisors citied dumping, illegal septic work, roaming of unleashed dogs, noise complaints and disorderly conduct as serious concerns.

According to supervisors, Vandling has a court date regarding this issue.

A preliminary injunction hearing will be set up in the next few weeks. This should prevent any more violations from occurring while his case is being handled, supervisors said.

In other business, the township announced a fundraiser for the Delps Park dog park and encouraged the public to make donations to help make it the best it can be.

Dr. Katherine Mack, who is donating the fencing, asked that the park be named after her late husband, Sherman “Woody” Mack.

Supervisors voted to name David Hess as the vacancy board chairman, who will step up in case of the death of a sitting board supervisor.

Work on the Cherryville intersection was expected to begin, and PPL Electric should be on site the second week of March.

It was reported the new maintenance building will need to be redesigned because the original plan was too far over budget. The board voted to conduct a phase one environmental study on the new plan to move the project forward. The study should cost approximately $4,000.

An amendment to the earth disturbances ordinance now requires a final inspection of the work if you do grading on your property. This is the only change to this ordinance.

An announcement was made that positions are open on Lehigh Township boards for anyone who has resided in the township for at least one year.
