EHS names student of the week: Hudson Peck

Q. In what grade are you currently enrolled?

A. I am currently a senior at Emmaus High School.

Q. Please provide the first names of your family members: parents, siblings and pets.

A. My mom, Chris, my dad, Mike, my two brothers, Will and Quinn and my dog, Hershey.

Q. What is your favorite subject? Why?

A. My favorite subject this year is my Calculus BC class, because it felt good to start doing algebra again which I got away from in geometry and pre-calculus and it was a great way to learn problem-solving skills.

Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?

A. I was named Student of the Month twice my freshman year and I’ve received the Outstanding Academic Achievement award the duration that I’ve been at EHS as well as being a member of National Honor Society.

Q. Are you involved in any extracurricular activities? How has COVID-19 impacted these activities?

A. Some extracurricular activities I am involved in are both the high school and club soccer team, the Interact Club and National Honor Society. COVID-19 has impacted all of these activities greatly. For high school soccer, our season was shortened and we only played a conference-based season, excluding district and state playoffs, which we did very well in. For club soccer, we’ve had to play and practice with masks on the entire time and we’ve had a large majority of showcases and tournaments canceled which has been difficult because it’s put a halt to the recruiting process. For both the Interact Club and National Honor Society, it has been a number of online meetings. It’s been very difficult to go out in to the community and find projects to do and people to assist, because these are both service clubs.

Q. What do you consider your biggest challenge to date?

A. For me, I would say COVID-19 has been my biggest challenge to date. Besides my extracurriculars mentioned above, it’s been very difficult from both a social and mental aspect. Especially in the beginning, when there were a lot of unknowns, self-isolating from my friends and family was very upsetting and gave me a sense of loneliness. However, sports gave me an outlet to contribute time to and to take my mind off things, as it has always done.

Q. What is your next goal after high school?

A. My next goal after high school is to attend college and major in either civil engineering or architecture and hopefully be able to play soccer at a varsity or club level.

Q. Whom do you admire? Why?

A. I admire my parents and my grandparents, because with three kids in our family, it is hard to imagine the stress and the time they have to provide in order to help us achieve our goals. I also admire Marcus Rashford, a professional soccer player, because on and off the pitch, he is making a difference, especially in his community.

Q. For what would you like to be remembered?

A. I would like to be remembered as someone who was always calm in stressful situations and brought happiness and a lighthearted mood to my friends.

Q. Do you have any advice for your peers?

A. You have to live in the moment, because your life goes by too fast and you need to experience every single part of it.
