LHS set to hire Daignault as new football coach

Liberty appears to be on the cusp of hiring a new football coach, as Shawn Daignault is on the school board agenda for recommendation to be hired at Monday’s meeting.

Daignault has worked as defensive coordinator at Northampton for the past three seasons with former K-Kids’ coach Kyle Haas. With Haas leaving for Bethlehem Catholic, Daignault reportedly won the highly-coveted Liberty job, which was rumored to have nearly 20 candidates, including Rob Melosky, former Southern Lehigh coach John Toman and East Stroudsburg South head coach Matt Walters.

While Daignault’s high school resume is limited to his time with Northampton, he’s had an extensive background coaching at the collegiate level from 1995-2018, almost exclusively on the defensive side of the ball.

He’s coached at Middlebury College (VT), Juniata, Trinity College (Hartford), US Merchant Marine Academy (NY), University of Pennsylvania, Stony Brook (NY), and Moravian. Daignault played college football at Middlebury from 1991-94 as a linebacker.

His latest stop at Moravian was his longest, coaching with the Greyhounds from 2009-2018.
