All-state teams are announced

Pennsylvania’s all-state football teams were announced this week with eight locals from the East Penn Conference and Colonial League garnering recognition in the top three classes across the state.

Freedom lineman Braelin Moore was the lone Bethlehem representative, as the two-way star on the line made 6A all-state honors for his defensive prowess. The Division-1 recruit was the EPC Northampton division MVP on the defensive side of the ball with 4.5 sacks and three fumble recoveries.

Also, joining Moore on the 6A squad were Nazareth quarterback Matt Bugbee and Easton linebacker Tamir Jackson.

Bugbee threw for 1,482 yards and 10 touchdowns and one interception. He added 229 yards rushing and 10 touchdowns on the ground. He also kicked 32 extra points and four field goals to lead the EPC with 104 points, as he helped Nazareth to an undefeated 8-0 season en route to back-to-back District 11 6A titles.

Jackson was first team all-state last season and finished with 58 tackles and seven sacks for the Rovers.

Whitehall’s Quinn Wentling was named to the 5A team at quarterback and East Stroudsburg South’s Christian Sapp was named at wide receiver.

Wentling threw for 1,365 yards and 12 touchdowns, but also ran for 741 yards and seven touchdowns, as Whitehall won the 5A district crown. Sapp caught 15 balls for the 338 yards and five scores in four games, as he’s heading to Villanova.

Central Catholic’s Jayden Williams (RB) and Lavon Johnson (DL) were joined by Northwestern quarterback Justin Holmes and Lehighton’s Zach Hunsicker on the 4A team

Williams led the EPC in rushing with 1,039 yards and 12 touchdowns to help lead Central to the District 11 4A crown. Johnson was a dominant force for the Vikes on the both sides of the ball, but was named all-state on the defensive side, as he recorded 59 tackles and four sacks.

Holmes threw for 1,425 yards and 18 scores and also ran for 1,070 yards and 13 TD’s to help lead Northwestern to the 4A championship game against Central.
