Allen board considers NAZCOG

Allen Township Board of Supervisors were invited to join an intermunicipal board of appeals - specifically for property maintenance - with Nazareth Area Council of Government. The supervisors reviewed the decision at the Nov. 10 virtual meeting following a discussion Oct. 31.

At the October meeting, township Manager Ilene Eckhart explained the board has been involved similarly under the uniform construction code.

“The NAZCOG board of appeals has worked well because it provides a review committee of individuals outside the township to look at these matters if there are appeals filed,” she said. “This would give us the ability to have that body reveal any appeals, violation notices, any interpretation issues, etc.”

Planning Commission Vice Chairman Paul Link also noted, “We need to have an appeals board,” and “it’s standard for municipalities to join together.”

Eckhart noted this would just be for appeals related to property maintenance. Filing fees would be paid by the applicant appealing the code.

The board of supervisors would need to advertise this board of appeals.

The board approved the motion to adopt the resolution 2020-15 NAZCOG intermunicipal agreement, as it pertains to the property maintenance board of appeals.
