Lower Macungie Library will be closed Dec. 24-26 for the holidays

The Lower Macungie Library has suspended in-person services until further notice. Contactless pickup service is available. The book drop will be open 24/7 for book returns; returns must be made through the book drop. All returns are quarantined for seven days. Staff will be available by email and phone.

The Lower Macungie Library Book Club is meeting virtually. The discussion for “Becoming” by Michelle Obama will be held 10:30 a.m. to noon Jan. 6, 2021. The book for Feb. 3, 2021 is “The Island of Sea Women” by Lisa See.

There will be a “Craft-Down” to 2021 Grab and Go Craft Kit offered Dec. 21 and 28. Kits can be picked up outside the library while supplies last.

There will be a Christmas Grab and Go Craft Kit for kids offered Dec. 18 in the box by the outdoor book drop.

Facebook story times are being offered through the library Facebook page. Virtual story time rooms are open to the public. There will be a weekly story time for children ages 2-6 years and some infant/toddler programming. Virtual story time play-along kits are available for pickup with a reservation. There will be online registration for the story times.

With the increase of COVID-19 cases, Concordia Lutheran Church has suspended in-person church services until Jan. 10, 2021. Virtual worship will be streamed live at 9 a.m. on their Facebook page www.facebook.com/concordiamacungie. Midweek Advent services will be streamed 7 p.m. Wednesdays. The Lower Macungie Community Center will collect children’s new pajamas and books during the holiday season. Items will be donated to local area children’s shelters. A large receptacle is located in the lobby through Dec. 31.

Christmas tree collection will take place on your regularly scheduled trash collection day on the weeks Jan. 4, 11 and 18, 2021.

The community center is open to the public while following Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines. The center will be open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Public restrooms are not available. The gym is closed through Jan. 3, 2021. Staff will be available by phone 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at 610-966-6924. The Lower Macungie Fire Department will hold its annual Santa Run in Alburtis and Lower Macungie Township beginning 2 p.m. Dec. 19. The rain date is Dec. 20. Routes and estimated times will be posted; check www.firestation30.org or Facebook for updates.

The yard waste center hours are noon to 5 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday through December. January 2021 hours are noon to 5 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Yard waste permits are required for drop-off.

My husband checks in with his dad several times a week. One weekday evening he called around 7 p.m. His dad said, “You realize, of course, you have broken the law.” Perplexed, Matt replied, “No. What law did I break?” He said, “You have called during Jeopardy!” It won’t be the same without Alex Trebek!
