Girls earn another top-five, D-11 finish

The Northampton girls competed at Blue Mountain a day after the boys raced last week.

The girls had another very good showing, finishig fifth, but in a year where rules are different because of COVID-19, none of the girls individually qualified for the state meet,

“It was another very solid showing for the girls team with a top 5 team finish,” said head coach Dan Benner. “It was back-to-back top-five finishes between last year and this year. And for the seniors, all four years they have been in the top-six teams at districts, which showed their consistency through the years.”

The runners on the day were: Amber Poniktera (12th 22:09.30), Brianna Tyler (20th 22:34.50), Georgia Wiswesser (25th 22:59.80), Ren Burkit 30th 23:35.30), Reia Sanchez (39th Reia Sanchez), and Lauren Schuch 54th 25:45.40).

“In a non covid year we would have had a couple of state qualifiers based on the results,” said Benner. “Obviously, that is a little disappointing to know what could have been, but it doesn’t take away the quality runs they had.

“It was very encouraging to see how our underclassmen like Brianna [Tyler] and Ren [Burkit] ran because I feel that sets them up for big senior seasons coming up next year.”
