Girl Scout makes dog bed for Lehigh’s K-9 Cash

During the Oct. 13 Lehigh Township Board of Supervisors meeting, Lilly Serfass, from Girl Scout Troop 634, presented the township police department’s K-9 Cash with a handmade bed.

The dog bed is one of five she made as part of her Bronze Award project. Congratulations go out to Lilly, and also Cash, who seemed to thoroughly enjoy his gift. For pictures, see the Lehigh Township Police Department Facebook page.

Congratulations are also in order for Officer Dean Heffelfinger. His probationary period is over, and a motion was passed to make him a full-time patrol officer with the police department.

“He comes in with a lot of experience, and he’s done very well,” Police Chief Scott M. Fogel said.

In other police business, Fogel reported school bus and school zone violations were up 32 percent in 2018 and 2019 - and this year is no different.

“We’re watching closely, and bus drivers are helping by reporting trouble stops,” he said.

It was reported the Primrose Lane drainage problem has been checked, and the slope in question is “very steep, so it is expected to have heavy runoff.” Evidence was found confirming the trail was man-made and not a natural occurrence because it was so uniform, but it had not been done in the last year or two.

This in no way mitigates the problem, but the township is in the process of creating an ordinance to regulate grading, in which residents may need to get a permit and approval before changing grading on their properties to avoid further problems.

In other business, the board passed a motion to issue a notice to proceed for H&K, of which Lehigh Valley Site Contractors is a part, to start work on the Cherryville intersection.

In addition, a motion was passed to “keep moving along” with the new maintenance building.

A liquor license hearing for Family Food Mart, 4619 West Mountainview Drive, was to be held 5 p.m. Oct. 27, after which several ordinances will be considered for adoption. See the township website for more information.
