Coplay: Be safe if going out trick or treating

Trick-or-treat night will be unofficially observed in Coplay 6-8 p.m. Oct. 30, it was reported.

Although borough council has not sanctioned the event, many children and their parents likely will be visiting households that have porch lights on.

It was mentioned the official approval was not given from the borough because of the coronavirus risk. The kids and their parents are asked to abide by the virus protocols.

Since there are no official acknowledgments for the trick-or-treat event, there may even be some children out in costume Oct. 31 as well.

Borough police will also be on patrol for the safety of boys and girls.

With All Souls Day being Nov. 2, the cemetery of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, on Hokendauqua Street, will be aglow with candles as families and church members pay tribute to their departed family members.

There will also be grave sites with flowers marking the event.

The borough’s three churches are planning their annual Thanksgiving ecumenical service for 7 p.m. Nov. 22 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 18 S. Third St.

The service alternates between the town’s three churches: St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, Redeemed Christian Church of God and St. John’s Lutheran Church. The service has been held annually for more than three decades.

The choirs of the three churches will not perform this year because of the virus. There will be instrumental religious music instead.

Stanley W. Reinhard American Legion Post 426 is reminding those with family members who have served in the military and have American flags at their burial sites to remove the flags if they are worn and tattered.

The flags can be deposited in a metal box in front of the legion home on South Second Street.
