Allen supervisors to meet in person for budget talks

Allen Township Board of Supervisors met Oct. 13 to choose a workshop date to begin work on the 2021 budget.

The budget workshop will be 6:30 p.m. Nov. 5 at Allen Township Fire Company, 3530 Howertown Road. Supervisors decided to meet in person for this meeting for the first time since March 10.

“Let’s see how things work,” Chairman Dale Hassler said. “It’s time to start having these meetings in person, even if it’s one out of two a month. We can’t keep going on like this.”

The rest of the board chimed in with their opinions. Some agreed it was time to get back to in-person meetings, while others argued the pandemic is only getting worse. It was noted the Oct. 13 meeting was one of the best online meetings they’ve had so far.

Hassler also pointed out they won’t be able to restrict how many people can come since the meetings are advertised as public. This could prove difficult for social distancing.

“Even if you could, how would you decide who gets in and who doesn’t?” planning commission Vice Chairman Paul Link added.

For now, the meetings will remain virtual with the exception of the budget workshop Nov. 5.
