LHS girls get 2 wins

Liberty and Bethlehem Catholic’s girls’ soccer teams met twice last week when the Hurricanes won both matches with scores of 2-1 and 2-0.

Liberty senior Catey Kelly scored two goals in the first game, and Becahi freshman Summer Hill scored for the Hawks.

“I got a great pass from Kaitlyn Ohl, got a couple touches on the left side, took it in, and put it to the near side,” Kelly said. “I knew right away to set the tone of what the second half was going to be, that we had to go out and score.”

After Kelly’s second goal, the Hawks held possession for most of the second half but failed to tie the game.

“Our defense has been working, working, working in terms of their stout positioning and ensuring that we’re clearing balls away, not letting [goalie] Sophia (Albino) get into a dangerous situation where she’s forced to make a save, and entrusting that when that opportunity comes, Sophia’s there for it,” said Liberty coach Andrew Uhler.

In the second game, which was also Liberty’s senior night, Kelly scored on an assist by Katherine Schray. Ariana Reid also scored for the Hurricanes.

Seniors include Giselle Ponce, Adriana Arthur, Zelayne Acosta, and Kelly.
