Mother-Son Halloween Party Oct. 16

The Lower Macungie Library is now open by appointment only; no walk-ins are permitted. A mask is required per the Centers for Disease Control guidelines. Contactless pickup service is available. Computer services by appointment are available. The book drop will be open 24/7 for book returns; returns must be made through the book drop. Staff will be available by email and phone.

The Lower Macungie Library Book Club is meeting virtually. The discussion for “Oil and Marble” by Stephanie Storey will be held 10:30 a.m. to noon Oct. 7. Register online by 8 a.m. Oct. 6.

Facebook story times are being offered through the library Facebook page. Starting in October, Virtual Story time Rooms will be open to the public. There will be online registration for the story times.

There will be a monthly Afterschool STEM Squad program via Zoom for children in grades K-5. The first program is 3:30-4:30 p.m. Sept. 23. Registration ends noon Sept. 21.

The Lower Macungie Township building is closed due to flooding. Offices including the tax office have been located to the rear of the Lower Macungie Township Community Center. Staff is available by phone 610-966-4343 or email info@lowermac.com for information.

There will be a free document shredding event sponsored by state Sen. Pat Browne, R-16th, state Rep. Ryan Mackenzie, R-134th and the township 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 3 at the Lower Macungie Township parking lot. Each vehicle is limited to four boxes/bags.

Habitat Lehigh Valley ReStore will have a truck available at the community center to collect unwanted but new and gently used furniture, appliances and building supplies for resale 9 a.m. to noon Nov. 7.

The Lower Macungie Township Board of Commissioners and staff are holding the 15th Annual Troop Support Program to collect donated items to send to township residents in the armed services who won’t be home for the holidays. To register a loved one in the holiday program, call 610-966-6924 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Donations of new food, toiletry items, batteries, magazines and phone cards will be accepted at the community center 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, 8 to noon Saturday and 8-10 a.m. Sunday through Nov. 25. A list of acceptable donations is available at the community center.

The community center will be collecting children’s new pajamas and books during the fall and holiday season. Items will be donated to local area children’s shelters. A large receptacle is located in the lobby through Nov. 25.

The Lower Macungie Fire Department has canceled its annual open house scheduled for Oct. 10. They will still hold the blood drive with Miller-Keystone Blood Center 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 10. More information is available on the Lower Macungie Fire Department Facebook page or at www.giveapint.org.

Curbside yard waste collection continues. The next collection week is Sept. 21-25.

Curbside leaf collection begins the week of Oct. 19 and continues through Dec. 4. Leaves must be out for collection by Dec. 4.

The Lower Macungie Township Annual Father-Daughter Dance will be held 7-9 p.m. Oct. 3 for girls ages 4-12 years. Admission includes dancing to music by a local DJ, drinks, snacks and a special gift.

There will be a Mother-Son Halloween Party for boys ages 4-12 years 7-9 p.m. Oct. 16 at the community center. To register, call or go to the community center 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday or call 610-966-6924. Register early!

The community center is now open to the general public while following CDC guidelines. The center will be open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Public restrooms will not be available. There will be facility rentals, gym rentals and Tuesday morning “Walk and Talk” for adults 8-10 a.m. Class participants and renters will be contacted with more information. www.lowermac.com.

The yard waste center hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday and noon to 7 p.m. Sunday through Oct. 31. Yard waste permits are required for drop-off.
