LHS girls have familiarity

As Andrew Uhler takes over Liberty’s girls soccer team’s head coaching job, there is a comfortable familiarity with the squad, some of whom he had coached at Nitschmann Middle School with former Hurricane head coach Scott Rodenbach.

Key returners for the Hurricanes will be forward Ariana Reid, midfielders Catherine Kelly and Samantha Donatelli, and defender Clarisse Irampaye.

“I was impressed with the work that many players had put in over the offseason, including individual work while in quarantine,” Uhler said. “Players have come out strong and with a willingness to show their abilities.”

Uhler believes the Hurricanes’ strengths will be passing, communication, and positional responsibility. Incorporating the soccer IQ surrounding the four phases of the game is what he is working on with the ‘Canes.

“We have always worked to be flexible as a coaching staff, and this year is no exception,” said Uhler. “Adapting to rule changes and COVID guidelines has just furthered our dedication to ensuring our players continue to grow and improve while following guidelines for safety in place.”
