BC boys soccer gets new coach

Former assistant boys soccer coach at Bethlehem Catholic John Hohn has accepted the head coaching position for the Hawks, replacing Mike Reiily.

Doug McTighe, who has coached at the youth level, will assist Hohn and coach Becahi’s junior varsity team.

“My plan all along was to be an assistant for a few years, but sometimes opportunity arises. This made sense,” Hohn said.

Hohn, originally from Morris County, N.J., played club soccer, some high school soccer, and now plays with an adult group. He’s also coached both girls and boys.

Since Hohn coached Becahi’s JV team last year, the first-year head coach’s transition has been smooth.

“They know my style,” he said.

The Hawks have been training since June, three days a week. When available, the team practices on Becahi’s turf field, as most of their away games will be played on artificial turf. Beca’s soccer field is grass, however.

“I just want to build a good, cohesive team that wants to be on the field,” said Hohn. “You see some teams, and it’s a job for them. I want them to be out there having fun as well as succeeding as a whole team.”
