Catty, North Catty receive funding for water, sewer projects

State Sen. Lisa Boscola, D-18th, and state Rep. Jeanne McNeill, D-133rd, recently announced a total of $2,908,922 in state grants for local water and sewer infrastructure improvement projects in Northampton and Lehigh counties.

Among the municipalities receiving the funding are Catasauqua Borough, $425,000, for its Lehigh Canal interceptor rehabilitation project and North Catasauqua Borough, $200,000, for its Main Street storm sewer project.

“I am pleased to announce the approval of these state funds that will help expedite improvements to our aging sewer and wastewater systems across the Lehigh Valley,” Boscola said. “It’s critical that the commonwealth partner with municipalities and municipal water and sewer authorities to ensure our water and sewer systems are safer and more reliable. These grants through the H2O PA and the Small Water and Sewer Programs work toward meeting that goal.”

“This critical funding investment is one more way to ensure that our water and sewer systems will be better able to operate safely and in a more consistent manner,” McNeill said. “This grant is one example of how the commonwealth is working with local communities to make important upgrades to our aging sewer and waste water systems.”

In addition to Catasauqua and North Catasauqua, the Small Water and Sewer grants include:

• $200,000 to Northampton Borough for its Dry Run stream restoration project

• $383,501 to Bethlehem Township Municipal Authority for its Pond View Court/Green Pond Road sanitary sewer extension project

• $146,871 to Glendon Borough for its Berger Road stormwater improvements project

• $75,000 to Hellertown Borough Authority for its Division Street well emergency generator project

• $53,550 to Wilson Borough for its sanitary sewer manhole rehabilitation project

The H2O PA grants include:

• $900,000 to Stockertown Borough for its sanitary sewer interceptor project

• $525,000 to Bethlehem City for its Broadway sanitary sewer replacement project

The grants were approved by the state commonwealth Financing Authority Board in Harrisburg. The H2O PA Program provides for grants for the construction of drinking water, sanitary sewer and storm sewer projects. The PA Small Water and Sewer Program provides grants to municipalities and municipal authorities to assist with the construction, improvement, expansion, rehabilitation or repair of a water supply or sanitary sewer systems.
