Public Library of Catasauqua: Crafts by appointment, lots of new books at library

Here at the library, we have missed seeing young children for weekly storytime.

In order to observe social distancing, and in order to maintain a safe environment, it has not been possible to gather groups of children together. Fortunately, it is possible for children from the same family to come to the library’s children’s room.

Beginning Sept. 15, Miss Amy is available by appointment Tuesday mornings and Wednesday afternoons for a personal craft activity with children 3 to 5 years old, one family at a time. The craft activity is for 3- to 5-year-olds. Parents can keep their infants and younger children busy with books while Miss Amy gives special attention to the older siblings.

Call 610-264-4151 on Mondays to make an appointment for that week for a very special, personal experience for your young family.

This summer, as we know, it has not been possible for our children to gather together for group activities.

What we have been able to do to celebrate summer is give our patron families pretty pots of flowers and free books and crafts. These were made available contactless from our foyer between the entrance to the library and the inner library door. And, who can forget the free treats from Oogie’s Ice Cream Truck?

All of that was made possible by a generous donation from Catasauqua Community Partnerships, the same organization that made previous summer reading programs possible.

The CCP’s donation has also made it possible for the library to purchase books specifically for children and young adults, including “The Puppy Palace,” “Dork Diaries,” “I Survived,” the “Red Queen” series, “Wings of Fire,” the “Miss Peregrine” series, the “Darkest Minds” series, the “Home Team” collection and more.

The library staff won’t be forgetting the donation of 70 books from Mackenzie, who had just turned 4. The books were her birthday presents from her friends. Children came to her birthday party knowing they were bringing books for the library. Thank you!
