Extension Virtual walking program Sept. 14

Penn State Extension, in partnership with Everybody Walk Across Pennsylvania, is offering a free, eight-week virtual walking program Sept. 14 through Nov. 9 to help turn unhealthy behaviors into healthy habits.

Everybody Walk Across Pennsylvania is a great program for work sites, schools, community groups and any other group.

Gather the family, friends or co-workers to form a team of up to five.

Even dogs can be a members of the team.

Team members will try to walk or exercise an average 10 miles per week, for a total of eight weeks.

Walk with a team or alone, at a convenient time and place.

Individuals with all levels of physical ability are encouraged to participate.

An exercise conversion chart is available to help convert physical activity into miles walked.

Weekly emails to teams will include motivators to keep walking, and strategies for eating healthy.

Each week, team captains will be required to report the total number of miles walked.

Registration deadline is 5 p.m. Sept. 14.
