Baseball action returns to LV

Catasauqua dropped a 10-0 game on Monday to Freedom to start the Lehigh Valley Baseball Tournament. The game took place at Freemansburg.

Freedom all but locked up a spot in the knockout round as the Patriots also also picked up a win over Bethlehem Catholic. 10-3.

Freedom will take on Liberty at 7 p.m. in Freemansburg while Catty will play Liberty and Bethlehem Catholic in the afternoon, also in Freemansburg. The games take place after Press deadlines.

The Pates had big days at the plate from Case Horwath, Zion Frailey, AJ Maffea and Garrett Glick.

“It was great to see these seniors out on the field playing with their teammates,” said Pates head coach Nick D’Amico. “We had high expectations this year and these kids want to prove that to everyone.”

The Hurricanes defeated Bethlehem Catholic 6-4 on Monday, as Parker Fry got the win on the mound for Liberty.

Liberty will play Catasauqua at 4 p.m. Wednesday, followed by their nightcap with Freedom, as both schools appear primed to take the top two spots to advance to the round of 16.

The knockout rounds will take place on Friday and the semifinals will take place at 1pm and 5 p.m. at Coca-Cola Park on Aug. 9. The championship game is set for Aug. 10 at 5 p.m. at Coca-Cola Park.
