Moravian College

Graduates are announced

Moravian College has announced the list of graduates from the conclusion of its 278th academic year of 2019-20.

Commencement exercises were to be held May 9 on the Main Street campus, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the ceremony has been rescheduled for Oct. 24. Moravian College President Bryon L. Grigsby, Class of 1990, will confer degrees to more than 500 bachelor’s degree candidates, 84 graduate degree candidates and eight doctoral degree candidates. The Moravian Seminary also saw 27 graduates complete their studies during this academic year.

Cedar Crest College

Degrees are earned

Cedar Crest College celebrated the Class of 2020 virtually this year by providing students with a message from President Elizabeth Meade, posting online pictures and creating a website dedicated to the graduates. The website can be found by visiting cedarcrest.edu/may9/index.shtm. Hundreds of undergraduate and graduate students graduated.

Muhlenberg College

Sommer inducted into honor society

Muhlenberg College has inducted Elijah Sommer, of Whitehall, into the 2020 Phi Beta Kappa Honors Society. The college’s newest members of Phi Beta Kappa, the nation’s most prestigious honor society for undergraduates in the liberal arts and sciences, were celebrated during a virtual event June 15.

Established in 1776 at the College of William and Mary, Phi Beta Kappa is a distinguished fellowship of scholars devoted to liberal education and intellectual pursuits. Muhlenberg College was granted a charter from the national organization in 1967. Strict eligibility guidelines, including completion of specific course requirements and placement in the Top 15 percent of the graduating class, mean inductees are among the highest-achieving students at Muhlenberg.

Thomas named to dean’s list

Daniel M. Thomas, of Walnutport, has been named to the dean’s list at Clemson University, South Carolina. Thomas, whose major is environmental engineering, made the dean’s list for the spring 2020 semester. To be named to the dean’s list, a student must have achieved a GPA between 3.5 and 3.99 on a 4.0 scale.
