UPPER MACUNGIE: Food trucks, movie at Grange Park

Upper Macungie Township’s Food Truck Fridays will take place 6-8 p.m. July 31 at Grange Park, 360 Grange Park Road, Allentown.

Order great food from local food trucks, and picnic with the family.

Stay on July 31 when the township will be presenting a drive-in showing of the movie, “Toy Story 4.”

Bring chairs and tailgate for the movie.

The number of vehicles will be limited and drivers will be directed to parking spots.

Masks will be required for use of the restroom.

Parkland Community Library reopened July 13 at the ROMA Building, 1605 N. Cedar Crest Blvd., Suite 302, South Whitehall.

Hours are 9 a.m.-noon and 3-6 p.m. Monday-Friday and 9 a.m.-noon Saturdays.

Two patrons at a time will be allowed in the library by appointment only to browse library shelves or use a computer.

These appointments will be scheduled for 45-minute time slots.

Between patron visits, library staff will clean and disinfect shelves and computer equipment.

The library is hosting a LEGO Masters Show and Tell for kids 3-4 p.m. July 24 and 31 on Zoom.

Every Monday, staff will email participants a new LEGO challenge to be completed by the end of the week.

Participants will then have 2-3 minutes during the show-and-tell to share their creation and talk about their engineering process.

Yoga instructor Larissa Noto, from The Lovely Lotus Yoga, will be hosting a Virtual Lil Yogi and Me for kids through age 4 and a parent/caregiver 9-9:30 a.m. July 20 on Zoom.

Make it Mondays will be held from 3-3:15 p.m. July 20 and 27 on Facebook.

Each week staff will demonstrate a STEM project, craft or messy activity kids can make at home.

Virtual story time with Miss Mary will be 10-10:30 a.m. July 22 and 29 on Facebook.

Miss Mary will read a story and there will be singing.

This story time is perfect for all ages but is geared toward kids ages 5 and younger.

A virtual Teen Dungeon and Dragons Night Zoom meeting through the website R20 for students in seventh through 12 grade will take place 6-8 p.m. July 20.

Library staff is hosting a Pigeon Escapes the Library Photo Challenge for kids 10:30 a.m. July 23 and 30.

Can you help staff track down Pigeon, who escaped the library and is loose around town?

Every Thursday, staff will release a new photo and clue to where Pigeon has been.

Correctly guess the location for a chance to win a stuffed toy.

Students in third through sixth grade, are invited to learn the basics of the Python programming language from Parkland High School senior Aishwarya at the Python Coding for kids’ program 4-5 p.m. July 22 and 29 on Zoom.

She will introduce participants to coding through educational learning platforms such as Codecademy, Trinket, edX and Codepen.

At the end of each session, participants will use their new skills to break out of an escape room.

A computer science fundamentals workshop for teens will take place 5:30-6:30 p.m. July 28 on Zoom.

The Hoopla Virtual Book Club will meet to discuss the novel “Afterlife” by Julia Alvarez from 7-8 p.m. July 21.

Join certified yoga instructor Karen as she focuses on beneficial yoga for seniors 10:30 a.m. July 23 on Facebook.

A Virtual Harry Potter Family Trivia Night will be held 7-8 p.m. July 31 on Zoom.

Registration is needed to attend the LEGO Show and Tell, computer science workshop, Dungeons and Dragon Night, Lil Yogi and Me class, Python Coding for Kids, Harry Potter Family Trivia Night, Hoopla Book Club, and senior yoga.

Zion’s Union Church Maxatawny, 329 Church Road, Kutztown, will not be having its traditional Vacation Bible School this year.

The Sunday School is instead offering families VBS in a Bag.

Any interested families should email Courtney.kellum@verizon.net by July 18 with the ages of their children, and they will put together a bag of lessons, activities and crafts.

Arrangements will be made for pick up or porch drop-off of the bags.
