To the Editor:
Our Constitution guarantees every American the right to be accepted despite race, color or religious belief and all are encouraged to be an active member of their choice of political party.
This is why we have elections. As reported in the June 18 Parkland Press, South Whitehall Township Commissioner Matthew Mobilio wrote on his Facebook page June 1 that supporters of our nation’s President, Donald Trump, were “a disgrace” and “should be hung for treason.”
At the South Whitehall commissioners meeting on June 3, a large number of public comments calling for Mobilio to resign were aired.
Mobilio did admit his comments “should not have been made,” but he also stated “I will not resign today. I will not resign tomorrow, I will not resign next week,” adding he plans to continue in his duties until his term expires in 2024.
Removing Mobilio from the board is beyond the authority of the township and, according to Solicitor Joseph Zator, that power lies with Gov. Tom Wolf.
In my opinion, those who disagree with Mr. Mobilio’s belief that people he represents, whose political choice differs from his own should be killed, should insist Gov. Wolf immediately fire him.
I am of the opinion it is unacceptable for any American citizen of any party who learns someone representing them is of the opinion they should be killed should not allow that person to remain in office.
